What experience, training, and/or qualifications do you have for this particular board or commission? <br /> <br />I served on the Human Rights Commission from 2000-2004, when I moved to Queens, NY for one year. I am a grassroots <br />~rganizer with experience. working in collaboration with many. different types of groups. .1. work at Community Alliance of <br />Lane County (CALC) as a program Co-Coordinator and have been employed there for more than one year. The're are a <br />number of projects that I, as a staff person at CALC, work on in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission. These <br />include Study' Circles and Responding to Hate Activity in Lane County. In addition to these projects, 1 am a member of the <br />City Council's Committee on Race and also the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Homelessness. .1 also sit on the <br />Education and Outreach subcommittee. . <br /> <br />2. What specific contribution do you hope to make to the board or commission? Why do you want to become a member? <br /> <br />It is my hope that as a human rights commissioner I can help to further the momentum that Study Circles has created in our <br />community. I am working on a project to get Study Circleson Race and Racism into local. high schools, I also. hope to be <br />able to work on creating a protocol around the city's' response to hate activity. I would bring to the comlnission an extensive <br />network of allies that reaches 'into many different areas of the community. <br />I enjoyed the time that I spent on the commission in the past and nope that I will get the chance to work with all of the <br />wonderful people on the current commission. <br /> <br />NOTE: To allow a large number of citizens to serve on boards and commissions, the City Council policy allows individuals to sen'e <br />on only one standing board or commission at a 'tiine.A current member of a board/commission who is a succe~sfu/ applicant.for <br />another board/commission will be required to choose between the two appointments.
