ESTIMATED COSTS

Since the recent pavement preservation project has provided a continuous overlay of this section
of Chambers Street, this would not be a good candidate, for landscaping, so the cost estimate
provided herein is based upon raised concrete islands poured on top of the paved surface.

Overall approximate dimensions of both islands would be 10' wide by 30' long, 6" height,
approximately 6 cu. yds. of PCC, 5/8" rebar pins driven into the pavement, mobilization,
temporary protection and direction of traffic and 25% Engineeling and Contingencies for a total
of approximately $6,000.

To maximize the effectiveness of and raise awareness of this new crossing, we would
recommend signing and marking it as a "continental" or "ladder har" high visibility crosswalk
with pedestrian/bike warning signs on each approach and "Yield to bikes and peds" supplemental
advisory plaques. All signing and markings must be reviewed and approved by the City Traffic
Engineer.

IMP ACTS

Based upon this recolmaissance-Ievel scoping, the restriction of southbound left turning
movements from Chambers to Broadway may have a positive effect in reducing potential cut-
through traffic by requiring drivers to make the left into the neighborhood at 8th Avenue or 10th
Avenue, rather than Broadway. All movements to and from either Broadway approach to
Chambers or 8th Place at Chambers would not be restricted or reduced.

07/12/05 G.Mc.
