LOWE Allen D

From: John Russial [jrussial@uoregon.edu]
Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 3:49 PM
To: *Eugene Mayor and City Council
Cc: LOWE Allen D
Subject: Subject: Please support Chambers Special Area Zone

Dear Mayor Piercy and City Councilors,

I'm writing to ask your support for the Chambers Special Area Zone proposal. I've
lived in the area under consideration for 14 years, and I'm a member of the
neighborhood group CAFHN, which worked hard to help develop a proposal that is
consistent with the character of this neighborhood while allowing for appropriate
infill. I use the word "appropriate," because many of us got involved in this
project to attempt to stem the spread of inappropriate, primarily out-of-scale,
infill that has plagued our neighborhood for some time. The proposal before the
council would create reasonable limits on the type of infill allowed, while still
allowing for the increased density that infill makes possible. One of the criteria
especially important to me, and I believe to others in the neighborhood, is the
preservation of the green space in back and side yards that is characteristic of
this mature neighborhood and that we value highly. We spend a lot of time living in
and maintaining those areas. This is part of the character of the neighborhood and
is, in my opinion, key to what makes this neighborhood a neighborhood and not just
a collection of dwelling units.
Again, I urge your support.

John Russial
941 Almaden St.
Eugene, OR 97402

11/7/2005
