LOWE Allen D

From: Denice Gray [denicebruce@comcast.net]
Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 8:28 PM
To: *Eugene Mayor and City Council
Cc: LOWE Allen D
Subject: Please Support Chambers Special Area Zone

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,

I am writing this email to urge you to adopt the Land Use Code and Zoning Map Amendments to be
considered at the public hearing scheduled for Monday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. I will be out of town
that day and therefore cannot attend.

There is nothing that puts pressure to expand the urban growth boundary faster than degraded
neighborhoods in the core of a city. The Chambers area is one of many neighborhoods surrounding the
downtown that is on a very slippery slope that could lead to such irreversible degradation. We have
come to this point in large part because of very poorly designed and constructed infill over the past
decades. I believe that adoption of the proposed design standards will give this neighborhood a fighting
chance to become once again a beautiful traditional neighborhood in Eugene. Such a neighborhood
can support appropriate infill in the future that will blend with the neighborhood, whereas promotion of
willy-nilly infill in a fragile neighborhood promotes slums.

While I think the neighborhood will blossom over the next decade if the design standards are adopted,
my family and I were not willing to wait for that and have moved neighborhoods in Eugene in the past
month. We lived at 1039 Taylor St. for more than three years. I still care very much for that
neighborhood, as well as promotion of good policy to make Eugene a wonderful place to live. Thus, I
strongly urge you to adopt the proposed amendments.

Sincerely,

Bruce Blonigen
2821 Spring Blvd
Eugene OR, 97403

Formerly resided at 1039 Taylor St., Eugene, OR 97402

11/7/2005
