In short, there are more acres not listed in this study
(4130 acres) than there are included in PROS.

The consequence of this exclusion is a severely skewed assessment of "need" for
additional parks and open space as the population grows.

The Table B-1 from the PROS plan states that 1,316.04 acres is needed with a projected
population of 210,900 by the year 2025.

Tobl$ 1-1; Pork. & Open So<lCEl ~rd8 and A.~ NMd
~IWIISOl'l lS NIiI Nnn
~l } 1 Ii .8
l~ &. c .. :D -Ii
i it
h 'I~ i j .t
ti\ Ii J 1! 1 Ii
Jl~ i I :g n }i "
.- J ~
,.... For example, the Community Parks category lists
219 total acres. However, this number excludes the acres of some City owned Sports
Parks (Shasta, Churchill & Cal Young). A low estimate of this missing acreage area
would be 25 total acres. The County Fairgrounds, Annitage Park, and Emerald Park
(River Road Parks & Rec. District) easily total the 75 acres, thus meeting the 2025
Community Parks goal already.

The Natural Area Parks need is the most understated total. As stated earlier, there are at
least 2500 acres in the West Eugene Wetland area that are not identified. At the
suggested growth rate of 2% per year, there is currently enough Natural Area Parks to
meet the needs into the next century!

The total existing acres in the .'Other Parkland" category is 987 acres with a future need
of 446 acres. The current acres omit all high school & college sports fields and three area
golf courses from the total. (approx. 450 acres).
