October 31, 2005

City Councilors
Mayor Kitty Piercy
City of Eugene
777 Pearl Street
Eugene~ Ore~on 97401

To Mayor Piercy and Councilors:

This letter concerns the Land Use Code and Zoning Map Amendments to be considered
at the public hearing scheduled fur Monday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. I regret that a
pft.Qf ~OffLIPjtment prevents me from offeri1t..g my te~imony in person,

In 1999 ~ I sold my house in South Eugene and moved to my current residence at 836
Taylor Street I was drawn by the beauty of the neighborhood, with its stately trees and
mix of homes and residents. I soon discovered that this is a very stable neighborhood.
Many of my neighbors have lived here since the 19508, and some even go back to the
1940s. At the same time it's a very open and welcoming neighborhood-
multigenerational and diverse.

This is a very convenient location. My husband and I bike and walk almost everywhere.
When our car lease expired, we decided not to buy a new car. Instead, we share a car with
a neighbor. This sensible and economical arrangement has worked out satisfactorily for
both parties for more than two years.

In other words-my experience represents exactly what is envisioned for Eugene: a
liv~ble~ walkable downrown neighborhood. I believe that aU Qfthis i$ compatible with
increased @flSity.
