ORDINANCE NO. I -1 ~ a~,p AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE CHANGE OF NAME OF CHIPPENDALE STREET To CHATEAU MEADOWS DRIVE. The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: one of the owners of property contiguous to Chippendale Street, which is located east of Arcadia Street and north of Harlow Road, within the City of Eugene, has requested that the name of Chippendale Street be changed to Chateau Drive because residents are subjected to embarrassin comments from individuals . g associating the name of the street with the Chippendale male dancers of California. There are currently four homes located on Chippendale Street which will b e affected by the proposed name change. All residents have been provided with notice and have submitted written consents to the street name change. The request has been reviewed by City staff, and the Council has been advised that the name does not conflict with the names of any other street within the City. Some confusion may occur with a s imi 1 arly named street in the City of Springfield, however, and it has been recommended that the name be changed to Chateau Meadows Drive. The postal service has advised that the four affected residential properties will be required to place forwarding orders for a change in their existing addresses, which the parties have agreed to do. No opposition to the change of name has been received, other than the above referred to recommendation and the comment from the postal service. The applicant has asserted a belief that the change of name will eliminate the embarrassment residents currently experience when cashing checks or giving their addresses to others. Notice of a public hearing to be held on the 24th day of July, 1989 at the Council Chambers, City Hall, Eugene, Oregon, at 7:30 o'clock p.m, was duly published in the Register Guard, a newspaper of general circulation within the City, at least once during the week immediately preceeding the hearing, to-wit, on July 20, 1989. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The name and designation of Chippendale Street, located East of Arcadia Street and North of Harlow Road within the City of Eugene is hereby changed to Chateau Meadows Drive. ordinance - 1
