operator himself, accepting as an amortization period for that <br />sign, whatever remains of the five years after September 9, 1968, <br />by which time all signs must be brought into confvrmi ty. <br />~ c3 Freestanding signs i n areas annexed to the city prior to <br />June 11, 1986, which signs were authorized or existed prior to <br />annexation and which became nonconforming due to height restric- <br />tions under the provisions of this code, may remain ~ n use notwi th- <br />standi ng the provi si ans of this code with respect to the height and <br />area of such signs. Any nonconforming sign which is structurally <br />altered, relocated or replaced shall immediately comply with all <br />provisions of this code. <br />5.185 Billboards, Except as otherwise provided in sections 8.165 to <br />8.790, billboards which do not conform to the provisions of this <br />code, but which were constructed i n compliance with previous regulations, <br />shall be regarded as nanconformi ng signs, and may remain for five years from <br />September 9, 1968. <br />8.790 Changes to Conform. <br />1 Any s~ gn s a 1 be removed, a1 tend or repaired i n accordance <br />with the provisions of this code within six months after September 9, 1968, <br />if: <br />~ a} i t i s i n vi o1 ati on of sections 8.590 ~a} to t h} , except <br />for strings of light bulbs, which must be removed or replaced by <br />other acceptable 1 i ghti ng within five years after September 9, <br />1968, <br />fib} It is in violation of section 8.685~b}. <br />~ c} I t i s a portabl a sign, 1 ocated not i n conformance with <br />the yard and special setback requirements of this code and the <br />zoning ordinance. <br />~d} Yt is an attachment to an identity sign not constructed <br />as an integral part of the sign. <br />~ e} i t was not i n conformity with the ordinances i n effect <br />at the time of construction. <br />~2} Any nonconforming sign which is structurally altered, <br />relocated or replaced shall immediately comply with all provisions of thi s <br />code. <br />Enforcement and Administration <br />8.795 Building Official to Enforce. <br />1 The building official or designee is hereby authorized and <br />directed to enforce all of the provisions of this sign code. <br />~ 2 } Notification of Violation and Nonconformity, The bui 1 di ng <br />official or des gnee s a note fy ~ n wry t~ ng the appl ~ cant for a si gn perrni t <br />of any violation of this code, who shall correct the vi of ata on of this code <br />within the time specified on the written notice.
