Unless exempted or otherwise provided for <br />in Sections 80.302 through 80.315, indoor storage areas and storage <br />buildings sha11 be provided with mechanical exhaust ventilation. <br />Exhaust ventilation systems shall comply with the following: <br />EXCEPTION: Detached storage buildings where natural <br />ventilation can be shown to be acceptable far the mater- <br />ials stored. <br />1. Installation sha11 be in accordance with the provi- <br />sions of the Mechanical Code. <br />2. Mechanical ventilation shall be at a rate of not <br />less than one cubic foot per minute per square foot of floor <br />area over the storage area. <br />3. Systems shall operate continuously. Alternate designs <br />may be approved by the chief. <br />4. A manual shut-off control shall be provided outside <br />the room adjacent to the access door into the roam or in a <br />location approved by the chief. The switch sha11 be of the <br />break-glass type and shall be labeled "ventilation System <br />Emergency Shut-Off". <br />5. Exhaust ventilation shall be arranged to consider <br />the density of the potential fumes or vapors released. Far <br />fumes or vapors that are heavier than air, exhaust shall be <br />taken from a point within 12 inches of the fluor. <br />6. The location of both the exhaust and inlet air open- <br />ings shall be arranged to provide air movement across all <br />portions of the floor ar room to prevent the accumulation of <br />vapors. <br />1. Exhaust ventilation shal 1 not be recirculated wi thi n <br />the room or building if the materials stared are capable of <br />emitting hazardous vapors. Exhaust vents ar stacks shall be <br />located in such a manner as to prevent re-entry of hazardous <br />dust, vapors yr gases into the building, ar their entry into <br />any adjacent buildings. <br />fin} Se oration from Incom atible Hazardous Materials. Stor- <br />age in excess of the exempt amounts specified in Sections 80.302 <br />through 80.315 shall either be: <br />1. Segregated from incompatible hazardous materials <br />storage by a distance of not less than 20 feet; or <br />2. Isolated from incompatible hazardous materials <br />storage by a noncombustible partition extending not less <br />than 18 inches above and to the sides of the stored material; <br />or <br />3. Stored in hazardous materials storage cabinets ar <br />gas cabinets. Materials which are incompatible shall not be <br />stored within the same cabinet. <br />~o} Hazardous Materials Stora a Cabinets. <br />1. General. When storage cabinets are used to comply <br />with the provisions of this article, such cabinets shall be <br />in accordance with this subsection. <br />EXCEPTIDN: Compressed gases shall be stored in cabi- <br />nets designed in accordance with Section 80.303. <br />Cabinets shall be conspicuously labeled in red letters on <br />contrasting background "HAZARDOUS - KEEP FIRE AWAY". <br />Ordinance - Z9 <br />
