ATTACHMENT A <br /> <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />City Council <br />Eugene Hult Center Lobby <br />Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br /> January 7, 2009 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Chris Pryor, Bonny Bettman, Betty Taylor, Jennifer Solomon, George Poling, Andrea <br />Ortiz, Mike Clark, Alan Zelenka, George Brown, members. <br /> <br />Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order. <br /> <br />I. Welcome and Introductions <br />Council President Chris Pryor opened the meeting and welcomed those present, including many elected <br />officials of other Lane County jurisdictions. He also recognized students visiting from South Korea. <br /> <br />Mr. Pryor thanked the staff of the City of Eugene for its excellent work. <br /> <br /> <br />II. Musical Selections <br /> <br />Those present heard two musical selections from the Oregon Festival Choirs under the direction of Director <br />Peter Robb. <br /> <br /> <br />III. Recognition of Outgoing Councilor Bonny Bettman <br />Mr. Pryor recognized outgoing City Councilor Bonny Bettman for the thoughtful, conscientious, and deeply <br />caring perspective she brought to City business. He noted her long service to the community, as evidenced <br />by her participation on many community and civic groups and by her council service. He cited some of her <br />accomplishments, including the establishment of the police auditor and her advocacy of the City’s <br />neighborhood empowerment initiative. He presented Ms. Bettman with a plaque recognizing her service. <br /> <br />Ms. Bettman thanked her fellow councilors and the Mayor for the time they committed to City work. She <br />said it was an honor and a privilege to serve the City of Eugene. She thanked incoming councilor George <br />Brown for his willingness to serve and thanked his wife Melissa. She thanked the activists of Eugene who <br />kept informed and encouraged them to continue. <br /> <br />IV. Administration of Oath of Office <br />City Recorder Mary Feldman administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Piercy and councilors Taylor, Ortiz, <br />Pryor, and Brown. <br /> <br />Mr. Brown thanked his son George for allowing him to run. He also thanked his wife Melissa for her <br />encouragement, support, and organizing skills, and thanked his campaign team, supporters, and contribu- <br />tors. He thanked the voters of Ward 1 for their support and said he would work to meet their expectations. <br />He would work with his colleagues, the Mayor, and staff to make the City a better place to live. Mr. Brown <br />acknowledged the many challenges the City faced and said as a newly appointed member of the Police <br />Commission, he would work on public safety funding and the changes being considered to the Police Auditor <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES—City Council January 7, 2009 Page 1 <br />
