ORDINANCE NO. ~ 877' <br />AN ORDITr~ANCE CONCERNING THE PETr~ALTY FOR VIQLATION <br />OF SECTION 4.930 QF THE EUGENE CODE, 1971; AMEND- <br />ING SECT I~oN 4.9 9 0 OF THAT CODE ; AT~D DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: <br />One of the purposes of providing penalties for the commission <br />of municipal crimes is to ensure the public safety by preventing <br />the commission of offenses through the deterrent influence of the <br />sentences imposed. <br />The present sanction for ~riolation of Section 4.934 of the <br />Eugene Code, 1971 is a maximum fine of $504.40. This sanction <br />fails to deter the commission of this offense and a stronger sanc- <br />tion is needed. <br />Based on the above findings, <br />THE CITY OF EUGET~E DOES ORDAIN AS FQLLOWS: <br />Section l . Subsection ~.3 ~ of Section 4.9 9 4 of the Eugene <br />Code, 1971, is hereby amended to read: <br />4.990 Penalties - Specific. <br />~3~ Violation o~ sect~,ans 4.,445 to 4.OS5, 4.330, <br />4.344, 4.425, 4.725~9~_, 4.795, 4.835 to 4.854, 4.564, 4.595, <br />4.925 and 4.965 to 4,975 is punishable by fine not to exceed <br />$504.44. <br />Section 2. Section 4.990 0~ the Eugene Code, 1971 is hereby <br />amended by adding a neW subsect%on ~~0~. thereto, to provide: <br />4.994 Penalties -- S ecific. <br />~10~. V~,olation of section 4.934 a.s punishable by <br />fine not to exceed $544.04 or confinement in jail not to ex- <br />ceed l4 days. <br />Section 3.
