The City of
Eugene played an essential funding, membership and staffing role in the project. WEC members will
present key findings from their final report at this workshop.

BACKGROUND

In November 2006, the council directed staff to pursue study of several transportation facilities in west
Eugene. They also directed staff to engage key community players in ongoing west Eugene
transportation discussions. Staff pursued these contacts and were invited to a meeting of the Eugene
Roundtable, a group of private citizens engaged in conversations about west Eugene transportation
issues. From this forum the West Eugene Collaborative formed in March 2007, worked for two years on
developing a set of recommendations about the issues they identified, and produced a completed report
in March 2009. The WEC has developed an outreach plan for sharing the final report with the
community and receiving input. This presentation is one stop along the way among many presentations
that WEC members will be making over the next few months.

The council approved initial funding of $40,000 in 2007, and an additional $10,000 in 2008, to fund the
work of the WEC. Total funding for the project from a variety of agency and private sources was
$140,000.

RELATED CITY POLICIES
The WEC recommendations are consistent with many of the Adopted Growth Management Policies.

COUNCIL OPTIONS

No action is being requested of the council at this time.

CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION

A council work session on the WEC report and possible next steps will be scheduled to take place after
the conclusion of the WEC’s community outreach process. At the work session, staff will present an
Z:\CMO\2009 Council Agendas\M090427\S090427B.doc
