AN 4RDINA,NCE AUTHORTZIN~ AM~3ULANCE SERVICE <br />AND RELATED EXPENDITURES AND FEES; ADDING <br />SECT=oN5 2.646 AND 2.648 To THE EUGENE CODE, <br />1971; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: <br />For many years the Eugene-Springfield area, has been provided <br />ambulance service by a licensed ambulance operator. <br />Should the private ambulance operator fail to perform this <br />essential emergency service, the community would be without the ser- <br />vice and the public health, safety and welfare gravely affected. <br />As part of its emergency preparedness efforts, the City Council <br />finds and determines that the City Manager should be granted author- <br />ity to provide ambulance service, establish fees, and to make expen- <br />ditures therefor when certain conditions exist which are detrimental <br />to the public health, safety and welfare. <br />THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FoLLOwS: <br />Section 1. The following sections are hereby added to the <br />Eugene Code, 1971, to provide: <br />2.606 Ambulance Service. <br />~l~ As used in sections 2.646 and 2.608 of this chap- <br />ter, "ambulance service" means provi,d~,ng emergency transporta- <br />tion of persons suffering from illness, injury or disability <br />inside and outside the city limits. <br />4.2} In the event an ambulance operator's license is <br />suspended or revoked under chapter 3 of this code or it is <br />determined by the city manager that the community is or will <br />ordinance - 1 <br />
