<br />D. Business Assistance <br />City staff routinely provide business assistance for downtown owners, investors or developers seeking to <br />redevelop or locate downtown. The assistance may be in the form of helping to identify funding sources or <br />possible tenants, or providing more generalized information about opportunities and regulations downtown. <br />Some of these services are fee based, such as limited consultations, which pull in key staff from various <br />departments to focus on specific project scenarios. <br /> <br />E. Planning Efforts <br />Planning efforts coordinated by City staff provide a forum that brings public and private sector constituents <br />together to discuss downtown issues, reinforce a downtown vision, and identify key next steps. Implementation <br />of planning efforts for downtown have resulted in specific projects, including planning for EWEB and the <br />Federal Courthouse area, code amendments to facilitate desired development downtown, and critical momentum <br />for downtown development projects. Work under the direction of the Library, Culture and Recreations services <br />has focused efforts on a Public Arts Master Plan, with a focus on key locations downtown. Staff for some but <br />not all of these projects are supported through non urban renewal funds. <br /> <br />F. City Staff Impact <br />City employees are the largest group of downtown workers. They serve the public at a wide variety of jobs, <br />often drawing people downtown, such as to the library or for building permits, as well as providing services that <br />benefit the entire community. As downtown workers and patrons, City employees support downtown activities <br />and patronize shops and restaurants.
