be welcomed by visitors, businesses and customers. The cost estimate in the table above is based
on a free standing, above ground facility with two fixtures on each side.

4.Art & Water
Art features, if commissioned from prominent national or regional artists, could increase the cost
but provide additional benefits. Interactive art, possibly in the form of an at-grade fountain (an
example is in EWEB’s River’s Edge Plaza) could become popular with children and a focal point
at times when the Market is closed.

5.Covered Stage
The raised sidewalk area on the eastern park block could be an improved covered performance
stage area for the Saturday Market and other special events if the current roof structure is replaced.
A new cover could also be designed to accommodate performance lighting. Currently the roof
only covers park benches and is not ideally situated for the Saturday Market or other events at the
Parks Blocks.

6.Water, Power & Landscaping
Other Park Blocks projects related to landscaping (particularly with native species) and service
improvements to assist the Farmers’ Market and Saturday Market with additional power or water
may be identified in the future.

HOW
Improvements would be managed by the City’s Facilities Division in consultation with key
stakeholders including Lane County and the two markets. Street improvements would be managed by
Public Works Engineers. The Downtown Urban Renewal District boundary would need to be
expanded through a plan amendment to fund projects on the eastern Park Block.

WHEN
Projects would be prioritized over a an estimated five to seven year period depending on the Facilities
Division’s work load and funding availability.
