No action is required by the City Council. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />At its 1997 fall process session, the council agreed to include a monthly agenda item entitled “Ceremonial <br />Matters.” From time to time, the Mayor is asked to sign proclamations or acknowledge awards received, <br />which serve to encourage and educate the community about important issues and events. <br /> <br />The following acknowledgements will be made at today’s meeting: <br /> <br />As a token of friendship between Eugene and Kakegawa, the City of Kakegawa sent a custom- <br />? <br /> <br />designed manhole cover to the City of Eugene to commemorate the two cities’ sister city relationship <br />and to honor the work done by previous Eugene delegations to Kakegawa.
