News Release -- Title <br /> July 12, 2000 <br /> Page 2 <br /> <br /> Upgrade three regional sewage pump stations. <br /> <br /> Construct 3,000 feet of new wastewater collection lines. <br /> <br /> Add a secondary treatment system at the treatment plant on River Avenue in north Eugene, increasing <br />secondary treatm, ent capacity to 130 million gallons a day from the current 105 million gallons a day. <br /> <br /> Establish a voluntary program for property owners to fix problems in' sewer lines on private property. <br /> During large storms, direct overflows to the Willamette River. <br /> <br /> Have the cities fund local improvements, and use regional funds Ko make improvements at the <br />wastewater treatment plant and other regional facilities. <br /> <br /> Explore alternative and innovative treatment technologies. <br /> <br /> Continue to monitor overflows and adjust the plan as necessary. <br /> <br /> The total estimated cost of the improvements recommended in the plan is $48.6 million, to be spent <br />over a 10-year period. The regional portion of the estimated costs is approximately $30.6 million. The cost of <br />regional projects is funded primarily from the regional portion of monthly sewer user fees and from regional <br />wastewater system development charges. Local collection system improvements are estimated to cost $5.8 <br />million in Springfield and $12 million in Eugene. The local improvements in Springfield and Eugene are fully <br />funded under current local rates. <br /> <br /> Comments received at the July open houses will be reviewed by the citizens advisory committee in <br />August.
