School EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER SPECIAL TWO-WEEK EDITION August 13 and 20, 2009 City of Eugene 777 Pearl Street, Room 105 Eugene, Oregon 97401-2793 (541) 682-5010 (541) 682-5414 (FAX) www.eugene-or.gov IN THIS WEEK’S EDITION FIRE & EMS DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR LANE COUNTY FAIR WORK UNDER WAY ON AMAZON PATH REHABILITATION PROJECT MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL BUILDS COMMUNITY AROUND THE CITY Fire & EMS Department Prepares for Lane County Fair The Lane County Fair begins next week, and the Fire & EMS Department will again be providing first aid, emergency response, and public education at the venue. During the fair’s run, August 18-23, the department’s on-site resources will be based northeast of the Lane County Ice building. At all times when the fair is open, Fire & EMS will provide an on-duty engine company (fire engine and three firefighters) and two EMTs including at least one paramedic. The Lane County Fair has contracted with the department to pick up the cost of providing the EMTs, so the City will not incur any overtime obligation. First aid for fairgoers will be available in an air-conditioned building with two treatment areas and a private bathroom. Outside, there will be a display tent and the fire engine. Truck ½, a Cushman-type motorized cart, will also be available for on-site response, depending on the situation. Work Under Way on Amazon Path Rehabilitation Project The Amazon Path rehabilitation project is well under way, which means a majority of the Amazon Path is closed thst from 19 to 31 avenues. Starting today, August 13, KSM Construction, working under contract to the Eugene Public Works Department, will start working on the concrete th path section from South Eugene High School to 24 Avenue, adjacent to the South Eugene High South baseball diamonds and the Amazon Park softball diamonds. This section of the path will be closed until construction is completed. Today, if th weather permits, a short section of the path starting at 19 Avenue, adjacent to South Eugene High School, is scheduled for new asphalt. During the next week, the contractor is scheduled to pour new concrete path on several sections of path, including the intersection at the Amazon LTD bus stop/dog park/skate park, st from the dog park south to 31 Avenue, and a 2200-foot th section from 24 Avenue to the Amazon Pool area.
