SECTION C – OVERARCHING COUNCIL GOALS, POLICIES & VALUES 18.City Council 2009 Vision & Goals Date: 2009 Context: The Mayor and Council meet annually to establish the overarching vision and goals from which to determine City policy. Public Involvement: n/a Council Involvement: Approved May 2009 Outcome: The Mayor and Council created the vision and goals listed below. ? Vision: Value all people, encouraging respect and appreciation for diversity, equity, justice, and social o well-being. We recognize and appreciate our differences and embrace our common humanity as the source of our strength; Be responsible stewards of our physical assets and natural resources. We will sustain our clean air o and water, beautiful parks and open spaces, livable and safe neighborhoods, and foster a vibrant downtown, including a stable infrastructure; Encourage a strong, sustainable and vibrant economy, fully utilizing our educational and cultural o assets, so that every person has an opportunity to achieve financial security. ? Fair, Stable, and Adequate Financial Resources – A government whose ongoing financial resources o are based on a fair and equitable system of revenues and are adequate to maintain and deliver municipal services. 19.Growth Management Policies Date: 1998 Context: In the Fall of 1995, the City of Eugene began the Growth Management Study. The purpose of the study was to conduct a comprehensive review of existing growth management policies shaping our city and propose options for future growth strategies in the Eugene. Public Involvement: Since its beginning, the study involved the community in every stage of the process from "Setting the Agenda" for the study to community-wide discussion on growth management actions that can be enacted in the future.
