Wildland/Urban Interface Fire #2 <br />Proposed Action Item: <br />Alignment with Plan Goals: <br />Goal 1, 4 <br />Continue to review and modify evacuation routes and procedures <br />for high risk areas and educate the public. <br />Rationale for Proposed Action Item: <br />Wildfires on the wildland/urban interface can cause disruptions and evacuations. During such times, it is <br />important to know ahead of time multiple evacuation routes so residents can safely evacuate. Reviewing <br />and modifying evacuation routes and procedures for high risk areas, together with educating the public <br />about the routes, will improve evacuation procedures for the public and reduce their vulnerability to <br />wildfire events. <br />Ideas for Implementation: <br />Explore fire agencies using GPS for pre arrival response planning and mapping. <br />Seek funding for countywide GPS for mapping purposes. <br />Create current road and trail maps of region. <br />Share information gained through this process with county emergency response agencies, 9-1-1, and <br />emergency medical responders. <br />Coordinating Organization: Eugene Fire Department, Springfield Fire Department <br />Internal Partners: External Partners: <br />Eugene/Springfield GIS Lane Council of Governments GIS, Oregon State Fire <br />Marshal, Oregon Dept. of Forestry, EWEB, SUB, Lane <br />Fire Prevention Coalition <br />Timeline:If available, estimated cost: <br />Short Term ()Long Term (2-4 or more years) <br />0-2 years <br />2 years <br />Form Submitted by: Eugene and Springfield Steering Committees <br />Action Item Status: Continued with rewording from 2004 plan. <br />
