Hazardous Materials #2 <br />Proposed Action Item: <br />Alignment with Plan Goals: <br />Goals 1, 2, 5 <br />Enhance emergency planning, emergency response training and <br />equipment to address hazardous materials incidents. <br />Rationale for Proposed Action Item: <br />To properly respond to hazardous materials incidents, and to maintain the safety of first responders, the <br />cities of Eugene and Springfield should enhance emergency planning, response training, and equipment. <br />This will allow the police and fire departments who may respond to an incident to respond in an effective <br />manner. <br />The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires communities to identify mitigation actions that address <br />existing buildings and infrastructure [201.6(c)(3)(ii)]. By training personnel how to address hazardous <br />materials incidents, Eugene and Springfield can help minimize secondary hazards following a disaster. <br />Ideas for Implementation: <br />Maintain present training regimen that includes trainings related to addressing hazardous materials <br />incidents. <br />Enhance emergency planning, emergency response training and equipment to address potential hazardous <br />material /terrorist incidents. <br />Incorporate emergency planning and training information in the Eugene and Springfield emergency <br />response plans. <br />Continue to combine hazardous materials training and terrorism training for Eugene and Springfield. <br />Coordinating Organization: Eugene Fire Department, Springfield Fire Department <br />Internal Partners: External Partners: <br />Eugene/Springfield Emergency Oregon State Fire Marshal and DEQ, Northwest Haz <br />Management, Eugene/Springfield Police Mat, <br />Departments, Central Lane <br />Communications <br />Timeline:If available, estimated cost: <br />Short Term ()Long Term (2-4 or more years) <br />0-2 years <br />Ongoing <br />Form Submitted by: Eugene and Springfield Steering Committees <br />Action Item Status: Continued from 2004 plan. <br />
