From:Suzanne Lewis
To:HARDING Terri L;
Testimony to City Council re Jefferson-Westside Special Area Zone
Subject:
Monday, November 16, 2009 2:07:30 PM
Date:
To Terri L. Harding re City Council Meeting 11-16-09:
First, my apology for the eleventh hour arrival of this message so
will keep it brief:
As a long-time, home-owning resident of the Jefferson-Westside
heritage neighborhood, I
have experienced its degradation by virtue (or more aptly by the lack
of virtue) of incompatible infill.
Historic character of architecture, mature plant life, livability, and
breathing space are being sold away.
Incompatible infills within a stone's throw are the monolithic, two-
story, 4-plex on tiny
subdivided lot, previously the backyard of a Broadway cottage + 1070
W. 11th, the address of the hugely incompatible infill of
poorly designed/sited/constructed/managed, towering two-story, crammed-
in, 16 units that have adversely changed the lives of
residents in surrounding homes, who must cope wtih noise, drinking,
traffic, lack of privacy, et. al. The latter address is also the
site of September's unfortunate taser incident involving the student
from China.
I firmly support the Jefferson-Westside Special Area Zone and its
intention to create much more compatible and reasonable infill
within this beautiful, heritage neighborhood.
Thank you for this opportunity to express my view and hope it's
arrived in time to be considered/included in
testimony package among messages more timely than mine. I also hope
the City of Eugene will
support and approve this change for the better for its citizens.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Lewis
