M I N U T E S Eugene City Council 2009 Boards and Commissions Interviews McNutt Room—City Hall—777 Pearl Street Eugene, Oregon October 13, 2009 5:30 p.m. COUNCILORS PRESENT: Alan Zelenka, Chris Pryor, Jennifer Solomon, George Poling, Andrea Ortiz, Betty Taylor, George Brown, Mike Clark. Councilors interviewed the following applicants for appointment to the Budget Committee: Aaron Walker Ramin Shojai Linda Barcus Shanda Miller Each applicant was asked to respond to the following questions: 1. In your opinion, which City issues should be given highest priority by the Budget Committee over the next four years? Which of these do you consider to be the most important issue, and why? 2. In the recent past, Eugene’s budget has faced deficits of several million dollars. In FY 10, we implemented a $12 million strategy to address some of the deficit, but we are still looking at deficits in the future. What would be your general strategy for balancing the budget? Where would you look for savings? 3. Do you have suggestions for ways to improve citizen understanding of the City’s financial condi- tions, budget priorities, and process? Councilors interviewed the following applicants for appointment to the Civilian Review Board: David Balthrop Mark Johnson Kate Wilkenson Steven Buel-McIntire Tom Kamis Rick Brissenden Eric Van Houten Each applicant was asked to respond to the following questions: 1. What can you tell us about your activities, personal attitudes and life experiences that would dem- onstrate you can make objective decisions about complaints against the police and objectively assess the completeness of Police Department internal investigations? 2. Please describe your views on the differing roles of the Auditor’s Office, the Civilian Review Board, the Police Commission, the City Manager and the Police Chief.
