Councilor Clark asked if complaints against a University public safety officer would be handled by the
University, rather than the City’s police auditor’s office. Police Chief Pete Kerns said that was correct.
When the police auditor’s office received complaints about employees of other police agencies, those were
forwarded to the appropriate agency.

Mayor Piercy commended the arrangement as it would provide better public safety coverage. She also
commended the University for being proactive and reaching out to students regarding noise problems.

Councilor Zelenka expressed his appreciation for the University’s collaboration and willingness to address
student conduct issues raised by neighbors around the campus area.

The motion passed, 7:0.

Respectfully submitted,

Jon Ruiz
City Manager

(Recorded by Lynn Taylor)

MINUTES—Eugene City Council November 9, 2009 Page 10
