sensitive area, document the refusal in the police report. <br />Absent extenuating circumstances, the cartridge(s), probes, and wires used should be discarded in <br />an appropriate manner. Probes which have penetrated the skin should be considered biohazards, <br />and disposed of in the appropriate manner. At least three AFIDs from each cartridge used should <br />be collected and submitted as evidence. <br />309.7 REVIEW OF TASER USE <br />Each report of use of a Taser will be reviewed by the Watch Commander. Reports will be <br />forwarded to the Defensive Tactics Coordinator, who will make a recommendation to the involved <br />officer’s division manager or designee as to whether the use was in compliance with department <br />policy, and will identify any relevant training or other issues. <br />309.8TRAINING <br />In addition to the initial department approved training required to carry and use a Taser, personnel <br />carrying the Taser must receive annual recertification. A reassessment of an officer's knowledge <br />and/or practical skill may be required at any time if deemed appropriate by the Training Manager. <br /> The Training Manager should ensure that all training is documented and includes the <br />following: <br /> A review of this policy <br /> A review of the Use of Force Policy 300 <br /> Target area considerations, to include techniques or options to reduce the intentional <br />application of probes near the head, neck, chest and groin; and <br /> De-escalation techniques <br />Police Commission Recommendations – Taser Guidelines, Redlined Draft April 8, 2010 <br />Page 7 <br />
