The annual <br /> <br />event usually draws 100 or more adults aged 50 and older. <br /> <br />Attendees must pre-register for the holiday meal, which costs $5. For more information, call <br />Yvaughn Tompkins at 541-682-5318. <br /> <br />Native American Flutes: History, Folklore, and Music <br />Learn about the flute’s role in Oregon Native American history and folklore on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m., at the <br />Downtown Eugene Public Library. <br /> <br />Mi-Cree-Ni Quash-Mah will give a free presentation highlighted by a flute performance and <br />traditional stories. More widely known as Queue, he grew up in a family that has crafted <br />flutes for many generations. His grandfather began teaching him the art when Queue was a <br />young child; he has been creating and playing for more than 50 years. <br /> <br />For more information, contact the Eugene Public Library at 541-682-5450 or www.eugene- <br />or.gov/library. <br /> <br />Human Rights Commissioner Receives 2010 PeaceBuilder Award <br /> <br />Congratulations to Ibrahim "Ib" Hamide,Eugene restaurateur and peace activist, and a member of the Eugene <br />Human Rights Commission since 2004, who recently received the 2010 PeaceBuilder Award from Community <br />Mediation Services (CMS). Commissioner Hamide was recognized by CMS for his work in building a culture of <br />peace in Lane County. This was the second annual event honoring local peace builders. CMS has been <br />serving Lane County as a non-profit organization since 1982, assisting community members in conflict by guiding <br />them through an informal dialogue process in which they collaboratively create a win-win resolution with each other. <br />For more information, please contact Human Rights Analyst Holly LeMasurier, City Manager’s Office, at <br />holly.k.lemasurier@ci.eugene.or.us or 541-682-5177. <br /> <br />Better Boards and Meetings – Neighborhoods and Commissions Learn Best Practices <br /> <br />On November 6,neighborhood leaders joined members of City boards, commissions and community groups for a <br />six- hour training on understanding and communicating a group’s mission, representation, decision-making, goal- <br />setting and meeting facilitation. The training was developed in collaboration with participating stakeholder group <br />representatives and City staff who guided the content and structure of the training.
