Mr. Brown wanted to serve on the committee. He said was a business operator and supported an income
tax to support schools. He said that the quality of the education system affected businesses and it was a
real issue for many businesses.
Mr. Poling hoped the issue of what revenue source would be answered by polling. He said if the
committee did not have its recommendations in place by February 14, he was okay with that. There
would be another ballot opportunity.
Mr. Clark said when he suggested representation from the business community, he was not suggesting
someone who was opposed to or supportive of such a measure, but someone who could provide the
committee with realistic impact assessments about what a proposed revenue source would do to the local
economy. He was happy to leave the question of who that was to staff.
Roll call vote: The motion passed unanimously, 7:0.
Mayor Piercy adjourned the meeting at 9:46 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Beth Forrest
City Recorder
(Recorded by Kimberly Young)
MINUTES— Eugene City Council January 11, 2010 Page 11
Regular Meeting
