It is the second LEED-certified building located at the Eugene <br />Airport and constructed by the City of Eugene. <br /> <br />Construction of the 11,600 square foot building was completed in September 2010, replacing the outdated and <br />undersized Fire Station 12 building, and relocating the station to the north end of the airfield. The new facility features <br />four ARFF vehicle bays, specialized equipment storage, conference space, and living quarters for four firefighters. <br /> <br />Building features that contributed to <br />LEED Silver certification include: <br /> <br /> Energy use to perform 21 percent <br />better than a basic code-compliant <br />building. <br /> <br /> Water use reduction to perform 32 <br />percent better than a basic code- <br />compliant building. <br /> <br /> Improved indoor air quality through <br />the use of low-VOC emitting paints, <br />adhesives and materials. <br /> <br /> High-efficiency lighting and lighting <br />control systems. <br /> <br /> Reduced lighting load by including <br /> <br />skylights. <br /> <br /> Reduced heat gain through the use <br />of high-performance glazing and <br />exterior sun shading devices. <br /> <br /> Additional wall and roof insulation <br />to exceed requirements for basic code-compliant buildings. <br /> <br /> High-efficiency heating and cooling systems, including heat recovery for the ventilation system. <br /> <br /> More than 75 percent of construction waste diverted from landfill. <br /> <br /> Use of local materials. <br /> <br />The $3.84 million project was funded through a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) entitlement and discretionary <br />funds, with a five-percent airport fund match of about $192,000, provided by ConnectOregon III.
