Striker at this time brought up the matter of the volunteer fire department, giving the complete history of s~me, and moved that the Co~n~oil pass a vote of thanks to the volunteer fire department for valuable services ~rendered to the City. ~otion seconded ~nd c~rried. Hr. Striker also moved to create ~ new volunteer fire dep~rtment to enable those who have not served their ti~e with the ~old volunteer crews to do so; seconded by Nr. NetoalE mhd the motion~earried. ~ ~oved by Nr, Bell, seconded by Mr. Koppe that the City Attorney and the Fire & V~ate~ Com~nittee and a Committee i from the volunteer fire department mc. et and make satisfactory arro.ngements to their mutual advantage. Eerier carried. ~.~r. ¥~arnock of the Street Committee submitted his report for grading and graveling the alley betv~een ~'~mdison and Monroe Streets, ~n(i moved that the petition be gr~nted. Dorr cm!!ed the mttention of the CoUncil to a strip of land thirty- three feet wide on Tyler, Street from Sixth to the alley wi~ici~ originm!ly belonged to ~r. C~npbell ~nd was deeded for street purposes, and if not used was reverted back to ~r. Wheeler. Upon motion by Nr. Doff, seconded by Hr. Hetc~lf, the City Attorney was instructed to look into the matter. ~r. ~etcalf of th,e ~,~inmnce Con~ittee repo~ted bills of the Weed Electric Co. $35.7~, G. ~. Skipworth $15.00, T, H. Ellis Co. ~2~2.70 ~nd recommended that same be paid out of the proper funds. ~y Mr. Bell t!xe recom~'~endstion was accepted. The ayes and nays were called. Cotuxcilmen voting aye Hetcalf, '~'~arnock, Moppe, Bell-, Doff, Striker, nay none, hbsent Hensill and Bean. The motion was declared carried and so ordered. Upon motion made bY ~r. Metcalf, seconded Nr.- Skipwo~'th called attention to the suit pending, J.. M. Ssffer vs. N. J. Thompson ~nd the Register Publishin~ Co., ~nd thou~xt that the City should instruct the 0ity Attorney to defend ~r. Thompson in'this matter ~s he was In the ~mploy of the.~ity ~t the time that suit w~s co~o~enced. 0n motion by Mr. Bell, seconded by Nr. ~{eteslf .the 0ity Attorney was instructed to defend Hr. Thompson. ~otion o~rrled. A petition for ~ sewer on Fifteenth Street from Alder Street to Kino~id Street was read and mreferred to the Sewer Co~ittee.
