Striker reported that ti~e jmnitor, Mr. Gragg, was um¥illing to con- <br /> <br />tinue the work at $10.00 p~r month, and would work for ~,)15. St.~bject w6s refer- <br /> <br />red to the ~'ire & Water.Committee with~power to act. <br /> <br /> Councilman ~(e.~urphey reported that he had inspected the system of flushing <br />the streets in Portland and the approximate cost of the same, and that in his <br /> <br />opinion it would be more s~tisfactory and less expensive to the City to install <br />a street flushing system instead of the present plan, although he had not gone <br />into the question of exact cost of the necessary apparatus. The matte~ w~s <br />left in the hands of the Street Co~nittee for further investigation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Nr. ~{cMurphey, seconded and carried, the ,Stree~ Co~aittee <br />was instructed to purchase tt~e push cart for street cleaning with ex~ra ~ns. <br /> <br />Councilman Striker reported ttmt a couple of tires for the fire engine t~e~l <br /> <br />been sent by a Portland Firm on approval and ttmt the Cozm.uittee t~ad not <br /> <br />accepted sm;~e, and trod informed them ti~at their supplies for ti~e engine would <br /> <br />be bought throu~ the Nott-Joslyn Co. <br /> <br /> A petition requesting for tl~e Moose Lodge the ri~t to use certain streets <br />in the Oity for a carnival to be l~eld from June 30th to July 5th inclUsive was <br /> <br />read. 14r. Bell moved that the request of tt~e Lodge. be.granted, under the dir- <br /> <br />eetion tlmt tt~e Street Comnnittee shall control the location, matter of using{ <br />the streets and tt~e matter of cleaning up ti~e streets by tt~e petitioners. <br /> <br />Motion was seconded and carried. <br /> <br />Petitions for street lights at Spring Boulevard and ifeights. Boulevard <br /> <br />intersection, and for three street lights .on Chesher Street at ~fasnington, <br />Lawrence and Lincoln~St~eets were referred to the ?ire & Water Co~.~mittee. <br /> <br /> Request of the Hill Urest Co. and.a petitio~ askin~ the City to take over <br /> <br />the Hill Crest lighting system and maintain same and offering to transfer the <br />system to the City was read and referred to the Fire &.Water Con~.ittee and City <br /> <br />Attorney. <br /> <br /> Petitions for sewers as follows; ' <br /> <br /> 1. Lateral sewer between llth and 12th Sts. from Van Buren to ~adison Sts <br /> <br /> 2. In the alley between Lincoln and Lawrence Sts. from 2nd St, to connect <br />Witt~ sewer on 3rd ant[ Lawrence Streets, <br /> <br /> <br />
