A petition fo~ the ~viD~ of West Sixth Street from Olive Street to Blai~ Street a vddth of 38 feet with paving consisting of ~ inch ce~ent concrete base and 2 inch ~avel bituliti~ic weari~M~ surface was presented with the recoL~menda- tion of the Street Co~m~ittee that the petition be ~anted. On motion the re- ee~endation was adopted. ~ Ordinance to improve Sixth Avenue from the west line of Olive Street to the east line of Blai~ Boulevard was ~ead and passed its second rea~ by title under suspension of the rule and was laid ove~ on its t~rd readi~ on objection of Councilman Beytien, The matter of hei~t~ of s~oke stacks in eo~eetion v~th the abatement Of odors and gases was referred to the Fire & W~ter Co~m~ittee. Ti~e Fire & Water, Co~E~ittee recommended that the petition for street llgt~ts at l~th ~d Harris Streets and at 19th ~d University Streets be granted. On motion the reco~endation was adopted. Tt~e Fire & ~:~ater Co~ittee reeo~ended that the petition for a ~(~ant mt Third and Eom'ce Streets be granted ~nd that the petition for'a ~drant at Second and Mo~oe Streets be denied. On motion the reco~ae~ation was adopted. The ~'ire & Water Committee also stated that the estimated cost of con- neeti~ fire ~l~rm s~ste~a with the 9ity p~p station was the st~ of $120. Hatter was left with the ~i~e &Waten Co~maittee fo~ furthe~ investigation. Chairman Goodpasture of the Judiciary Co~J~ittee reported that the membens of the City Council and City Attorney had met with the Officers of the Portland, ~gene & Eastern Railway Co. and had reached ~n agreement whereby the City was to v~den West Eighth Avenue; tl~ Compa~ agreei~ to contribute $3500 towards the cost thereof and also ag~eel~ to repai~ the pavi~ alo~ its tracks in the City, and on motion tt~e report was adopted, and the City Attorney directed to prepare papers coveri~ the agreement with the Railway Co. and submit tt~em at the next Council me eti~.
