Council Ohambers, Eugene, Oregon, May 22, 1916. <br /> <br /> Oouncil met pursuant to adjournment of May 8th, and was called to order <br />by Mayor Bell. Present Councilmen Parks, Polders, Peterson, Koppe, Devereaux, <br />Nosher and Quimby; absent Goodpastt~e. <br /> <br /> Report of W. D. Cheshire, Health Officer, was read and filed. <br /> <br /> The petition of Hewitt & Dillard and S. P; Ness asking the Council <br /> <br />to take some action in regard to the lines of Agate Street was read and referred <br />to the Street Committee and City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Request of the Lane County Automobile Club by B. B. Brundage for per- <br />mission to establish ga~ide boards on Willamette and Fifth Streets, and on <br />ttigh Street and Lincoln Street, directing tourists to the new camp g~ounds was <br />referred to the Street Committee with power to act. <br /> <br /> Report of the Finance Committee submitted by W. H. Alexander reco~mend- <br />i~g the purchase of 100 cords of old g~owth body fir wood to be W feet long <br />and not over 12 inches in diameter was on motion adopted and' the Recorder <br />instructed to advertise for bids. <br /> <br /> An opinion from City .Attorney Foster relati~.~ to the right of the <br /> <br />Council to incur indebtedness for remodeling the City Hall was read. <br /> <br /> Report of the Street .Co~Enittee on the objections of property owners to <br />the levying of assessments for the improvement of the alley between C!Brnelton <br />and Lincoln Streets from llth Avenue to 12th Avenue, stating that they found <br />there is no foundation for the objections, and recommending that the objections <br />be overruled was on motion adopted, and <br /> <br />An Ordinance levying assessments for the improvement of the alley between <br />Cha~nelton and Lincoln Streets from llth Avenue to 12th Avenue West in the City <br />of Eugene was ~ead the third time and placed upon its passage. Councilmen voti~ <br />aye 7, ri,ay none, absent Goodp~sture. The Ordinance was declared p~ssed and <br />mtmbered#lS~. <br /> <br /> At this time Councilman Goodpasture appeared in Council. <br /> <br /> On motion the nine Ordinances providing for cement sidewalk construct- <br />ion as first read on May 8th were referred to the Street Committee to report <br />at the ~ext meeting. <br /> <br /> ,~nOrdinance regulating the production of theatrical or operatic per- <br />formanees, moving picture shows and other amusements providing for a board <br />of censorship, concerning the s~me, and p~oviding penalties for the violation <br />of this ordinance and repealing Ordinance 1292, and all other ordinances in <br /> <br /> <br />
