- : NOV~ER 27, 1916. <br /> <br /> Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon, November 27, 1916. <br /> <br /> Council met pursuant to adjournment of Novem'oer l~th, and was called <br />to order by 5{ayor Bell. Present Councilmen Polders, Parks, Peterson, Koppe, <br />~osher, Devereatu(, Quimby and Goodpasture. <br /> <br /> Petitions for street lights at the intersection of %Aventieth and <br />Harris Streets, and on }~oss Street at the intersection of Sixteenth Street <br />were referred to the Fire & Water Co~unittee. <br /> <br /> Request of the Booth-Kelly Lumber Co. for franchise to run telephone <br />wire in the alley between Willamette and Oak Streets from their 0ffiee at <br />Fifth and Willamette Streets to the Postal Telegraph Office was referred to <br />the Street Com~_~ittee ar~'l City Attorney with power to act. <br /> <br /> Conu~unieation from ~. S. Barker relating to the removal of sign board <br />near the river bridge, claiming that the sign board was on his property and <br />that there is no street there, was referred to the Street Co].~_~ittee and <br />Att or ney. <br /> <br /> Co.wm~unication from James 5%]llerton calling attention to the condition <br />of the paved streets upon which he alleges many horses are falling and be- <br />coming injured, and reeon~aending theft some steps be taken to s~nd the paved <br />streetS, was read and referred to the Street Contuittee. <br /> <br /> Petition of Arthur '~. Clark for the vacation of the alley in Block 13 <br />of Sladden's Fourth Addition coming on at this time for further consideration, <br />and no objections having been filed and none appearing in opposition to the <br />granting of said petition, and an affidavit of publication of notice of peti- <br />tion to vacate said alley having been filed, at this time <br /> <br />An Ordinance vacating the alley through Block 13, Sladden's Fourth Addition <br />to Eugene was read and passed its second and third readings by title under <br />suspension of the ~ale by unanimous consent of the Council and was placed <br />upon its final passage. Councilmen voting.ay? 8, nay none. The 0rdinanee <br />was declared passed and munbered #1885. <br /> <br /> The Street Conu~ittee reeonu~.%ended that it is not to the best interest <br /> of the City to improve alleys until the same have been permanently improved at <br /> the expense of the abutting, property. The recommendation was on motion <br /> adopted. <br /> <br /> The Street Comnittee recommended that the application of Mr. Fields <br /> for a cement sidewalk in Rugh's Add. under the Bancroft payment plan be <br /> denied as the establisrn~ent of such a precedent would lead to large and un- <br /> warranted expenditures of money in outlyi~ug sections of the City.
