Absent <br /> <br />Willoughby and Kaldor. ~inutes of Council proceedings of Jtme t~e 13th-and 27th <br />were read and approved as rea~. <br /> <br />An Ordinance levying assessment fo~, the improvemen~ of Lawrence .S~reet from <br />the center lines of 17th Avenue West, south to ~he existing macadam on lgth A~enue - <br /> <br />West in the 0ity of ~tgene by grading and graveling tt~e same having been read the <br />first time before the Council June 2Vth, l~-~21 and laid over the notice to property <br /> <br />owners and proper notice havln~{ been given to the property owners named in said <br /> <br />0rdinanee giving{ notice tha~ objections shall be heard July llth, 1-~21 a~ 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Objections were called for at this time but no formal objections were made or filed. <br /> <br />,~ne further consideration of said Ordinance was postponed until next Council meet- <br />lng July '~th, 1~21. <br /> <br /> l~{r. W.P. Fell and others appeared before the Council representing that hea,ry <br /> <br />t~tck traffic was being naintalned on the paved and improved streets and highways <br />of the City of ~gene, Oregon and that the same was lnJurying and destroying the <br />pavement and highways. Nr. Geo. ~,.leMorran appeared before the Council representing <br /> <br />a eom~ittee from the ~k~gene Chamber of Com~,~erce and filed a protest against the <br />use of the highways and improved and paved s~reets of Ek~gene, Oregon b~ heav~ truck <br /> <br />traffic and urged that the City take action to control such ~raffie that the improve- <br /> <br />merit of said streets may not be destroyed. ~he further consideration of said matter <br /> <br />was laid over until next meeting. <br /> <br /> Councilman Parks, chairman of tt~e Road and Street Committee to whom was re- <br />ferred the matter of adjust~..ent of grades at 20th and Olive Stree~ June 13th,l~21 <br /> <br />reported that 20th Street be graded at its intersection with Olive Street a suffi, <br /> <br />cient width in the center .thereof to allow traffic to operate convientl¥ a~ said <br />intersection. Upon motion the recommendation was adopted. <br /> <br /> Cmme, ilman Parks, chairman of the Stree~ Committee reoom~.ended tha~ the paving <br />of High Street from 3rd Avenue East, north to 1st Avenue East with hard surface <br /> <br />paving, be deferred until some future day. Upon motion the permit was authorized <br /> <br />to be issued. <br /> <br /> <br />
