Council Chember,~, ~gene, Oregon. <br /> October lO, 1927. <br /> <br /> Uinutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at 7;30 o~eloek <br />P.t~. on October loth, 1927. There were present Mayor A.L.Williamson and all <br />member~ of the Council except ~u~h,, who was absent. !~eeting called to order <br /> the Nayor. The minutes of September 12 and Sep,~*~uber 26,'1727, re~l and <br />approved. <br /> <br /> The Independence Cre~mery appeared sad 'a~ked permission to construct a <br />o~rrugate,! shed at the rear of the place of business on 7th Avenue E., Sa~d <br />matter was referred to the l~llre and Water Cow]nlttee and it recoramended said <br />request be granted.. 0~ motion such- rCe.ot~ff~Hd~Ni'6rC;f~s approved. <br /> <br /> Professor Eriok Allen aPPeared and asked for relief as to the Paving of <br />Birch Lane claiming the street as graded and paved will pr~ctically destroy <br />the con~nerclal value of his property. The matter was dise,~sed m~d he was <br />l~formed there was no relief po~sible. <br /> <br /> Committee reports were o~lled for: , <br /> <br /> The Judiciary Cm~nittee reported o~ the proposed Ordinance prohibiting <br />oonveyance~ from operating on fixed routes .without a franchise and recommended <br />it p~ss. Such report w~s unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> The Judiciary Co~nitbee reported on the proposed .Ordinance reserving a park- <br />ing zone at street corners ts load cad unload passengers from street busses end <br />recommended it pm~s with slight changed named. 0n motion ~uch reco~mnendation <br />was approved. <br /> <br /> The proposed Tax,l Ordinance was read the 2n~ time and the Judiciary <br />Co'mmIttee reco~uended it be held over for furthsr study. On motion, such re- <br />commedna'bion Was aPProved. : <br /> <br /> The ProPosed carnival and circus Ordinance w~s read the second time and the <br />Judiciary Committee recommended It be held over for further study. On motion <br />such ~eoo:mendatlon was aPproved. <br /> <br /> The Street ConElttee stated Agate Street paving is reported in bad condition <br />and also the approaches to the Alder Street brldg~ are out of repair. The matter <br />was referred to the City F~glneer for :'aport at the next council 'meeting. <br /> <br /> Th~ Pire mud Water Com~,nitte~ ~eeo~nended a stre~t light be Installed at 20th. <br />Avenue end Jefferson Street. On mot£oa--~uch recon~,mendation was ~opted. <br /> <br /> The Health Co~nit$se recommended the eppo'i~tment of the'Play Ground Com- <br />mislon be postponed ~ill next, meeting of the Council. Such recommendation was <br />approved. <br /> <br /> It was recommended the ~{ealtH Committee, Mayor cad City Attorney enter into <br />an agre~nent with the contractor of the Comfort Station to permit the care taker <br />to move into such building before completion and aceept~oe, Judge Barnard to have <br />control, of the light, heat etc., during such time. 0n motion such recommendation <br />was approved. <br /> <br />The Printing,~Police Com~,lttees had no report te m~e. <br /> <br /> The Police Co:mnlttee called for the reeormnendatlon of Chief of Polloe Strait <br />for the dismissal frets the service of Poil~.-r_uent Pollock and Purkey, which recom- <br />mendation wes rani. A petition from such policemen was also re,i, ~red E. Smith <br />~ppearing as Attorney for ~uch men. A full hearing was h~ before the Council <br />~s to the ch~ge:~ m~de ~d their petition considered. ~ter discussion, <br />~oved bg ~onroe ~d s~con~o~:l by Large that the aetlon of the Chief of Pollee <br />~suspending such men be su~staluad and they be dismissal from the service. Vote <br /> e~g hat such motion o~rried by a vote of 4 to ~, <br /> <br /> ~ per the call the bid of Stien Bro:~., was opened for the construction of <br />~ sewer on the south aide of ltth Avenue fr.~ Hllyard to Alder Streets, the bid <br />being ~1223.40. There being only one bid which ~mount was greater than the <br />Engineer's estimate the s~ne was, on motion, rejected. <br /> <br /> R.W. Shelley presented a bid 'to purchase lots 4,5,6, block i, Cherry Grove <br /> ~dditio~ reeentl~ acquired by the city from Lane County under tax deed. S~id <br />k Tatter was referred to the ~lnenee Conmnittee a~d the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> <br />
