<br />ATTACHMENT E <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />McNutt Room—City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street—Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br />May 24, 2011 <br />5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Betty Taylor, George Brown, George Poling, , Chris Pryor, Alan Zelenka. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: Andrea Ortiz, Mike Clark, Pat Farr. <br /> <br />A. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS INTERVIEWS <br /> <br />The council interviewed candidates for open positions on the City’s Budget Committee and Toxics Board. <br /> <br />Mark Rust, Chelsea Clinton, Laura Illig, and David Hinkley were interviewed for vacancies on the Budget <br />Committee, and each candidate was asked the following questions. <br /> <br />1. Suppose the City of Eugene is projected to experience a long-term financial deficit where its <br />expenditures are expected to exceed revenues for the foreseeable future. What policy options <br />would you consider to create a balanced City Budget? <br />2. What City services do you consider to be the most important to the community in general and to <br />you personally? <br />3. Taking into account broad community input is an important part of the Budget Committee <br />discussions and decision-making. What types of information and community feedback would you <br />consider as part of analyzing and discussing the City’s budget? <br /> <br />Christine Zeller-Powell, Joseph Gonzales, and Alison Guzman were interviewed for vacancies on the Toxics <br />Board. Each candidate was asked the following questions: <br /> <br />1. To represent the right-to-know, or advocacy, position on the board, you must have a <br />demonstrable record of advocating for the public’s right to know. Please tell us how you meet <br />this qualification. <br />2. What is your understanding of the purpose of the City’s Toxics Right-to-Know Program? <br />3. Do you feel you can work effectively with the other members of the board, some of whose <br />viewpoints on certain issues may be diametrically opposed to yours?
