Safety on the Job <br />Accident Prevention Policy APPM Section 93.3.2 <br />City of Eugene employees have the right to expect a safe place in which to work, and proper tools and equipment <br />with which to do their jobs. <br />The City is committed to providing a safe work place, safe equipment, proper materials, and to establish and insist <br />upon safe methods and practices at all times. No employee or supervisor may ever be relieved of any part of <br />responsibility for accident prevention. <br />It is a basic responsibility of management to make the safety of human beings a part of its daily concern. This <br />responsibility must also be accepted by every employee of the City. <br />Emergency Procedures APPM Section 4.95 <br />Emergency procedures are determined by the City Manager or the Acting City Manager. In an emergency <br />situation, every attempt will be made to maintain City services at a normal level. If the situation is serious enough <br />that operation of these services must be modified to respond to the crisis, employees will be informed as quickly <br />as possible by telephone and/or the news media. <br />Appearance and Conduct APPM Section 4.4 (Revised 0910412000) <br />Public relations are an integral part of each City employee's job. Employees should take pride in friendly, efficient <br />service and should strive to do the best job possible for the citizens of Eugene. Neat appearance, appropriate <br />conduct, and a helpful attitude are of the utmost importance in gaining favorable public opinion. <br />Since many employees are recognized as employees of the City, they should take care that off - the -job conduct <br />does not impair their effectiveness on the job. <br />Employees may not accept special favors, considerations, discounts for private purchases, gifts, or gratuities <br />resulting from or related to their employment with the City. Remember that the appearance of impropriety can be <br />as damaging as actual impropriety and should also be avoided. <br />The City encourages citizens of Eugene to volunteer their time, services, and financial support to our departments . <br />and programs. Employees should take the time to recognize contributions to our organizations. Employees may <br />not, however, grant special favors, exceptions, or fail to take appropriate action with a citizen because of his or her <br />contributions. This includes, but is not limited to, verbal threats or intimidation and physical intimidation, assault <br />or battery by an employee, former employee or any visitor to a City workplace. Workplace violence may also <br />include destruction or abuse of property. <br />It is the responsibility of all employees and agents of the City to create and maintain a work environment free of <br />workplace violence. <br />Employees and other agents of the City, who experience any form of violence in the workplace, including physical <br />or verbal threats, are expected to report the incident, as outlined below. In addition, any City employee having <br />knowledge of a violent act committed in the workplace by any other City employee must also report it, as outlined <br />below. <br />Emergency services personnel are often exposed to situations that involve violence. These guidelines are not <br />meant to be applied to emergency personnel in the course of their interactions during an emergency or <br />enforcement response. Police Department and Fire /EMS Department policies and standard operating procedures <br />apply in those situations.) <br />
