HOLIDAYS <br />The City observes the following Holidays (Revised 02117105) <br />• New Year's Day, January 1 <br />• Martin Luther King Jr. Day, third Monday in January <br />• President's Day, third Monday in February <br />• Memorial Day, last Monday in May <br />• Independence Day, July 4 <br />• Labor Day, first Monday in September <br />• Veteran's Day, November 11 <br />• Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November <br />• Friday following Thanksgiving Day <br />• Christmas Day, December 25 <br />Holidays are observed on the preceding Friday, if they fall on Saturday, and on the following Monday, if they fall on <br />Sunday. This applies to City operations that are scheduled Monday through Friday only. <br />Holiday Pay APPM Section 10.3.1 (Revised 09116102) <br />To receive holiday pay, employees must work the last scheduled work day before and the first scheduled work day <br />after the holiday or be on authorized leave with pay for both of these days. <br />Holiday pay for full -time, regular employees is eight (8) hours. Holiday pay for part -time, regular employees shall <br />be prorated to their regular work schedule. Holidays which occur during vacation or sick leave are not charged <br />against the leave. <br />Confidential Non - represented employees (covered by FLSA) who are required to work on a holiday will be <br />compensated for all hours worked on the holiday at 1 -112 times their straight -time rate in addition to holiday pay. <br />This premium pay shall be due for working on either the actual holiday or the observed holiday, but not both. All <br />other non - represented employees (except those who receive shift holiday) required to work on the operation's <br />designated holiday should take an alternate day off within sixty (60) days following the holiday. <br />If a City operation is regularly scheduled to be open on a designated holiday and the holiday falls on an <br />employee's scheduled day off; the employee will receive an "alternate" holiday which must be used within sixty <br />(60) days following the holiday. There is no cash -out option for "alternate' holiday. <br />Shift Holiday for Non - represented Police & Fire/EMS Employees <br />APPM Section 10.3.2 (Revised 09116102) <br />Police and Fire/EMS non - represented employees working in a 24 -hour, 7 -day per week operation who are <br />designated shift employees are eligible to earn shift holiday since they may be required to work on a City <br />sanctioned holiday. Non - represented shift employees accrue 112 hours (156.8 hours for 56 -hour Fire/EMS <br />employees) of holiday time per year. <br />Effective June 30 each year, the shift holiday account for all employees other than sworn police supervisors can <br />be no greater than 120 hours (156 hours for 56 -hour Fire/EMS employees). Time in excess of this amount will be <br />lost if not used prior to June. <br />Sworn police supervisors will be cashed out if the shift holiday exceeds the 120 hour limit <br />VACATIONS <br />Eligibility <br />AFSCME and Non - represented employees are eligible for vacation time after they have been employed for six (6) <br />consecutive months. EPEA- and IAFF- represented employees are eligible after twelve (12) consecutive months of <br />employment. Vacation is accrued based on regular hours worked and paid leave time. Overtime hours are <br />excluded. Supervisory, professional, and managerial employees are also eligible for management vacation days. <br />Taking Vacation <br />Vacations must be scheduled in advance and are subject to supervisory approval. You cannot take vacation not. <br />yet accrued. <br />Accrual <br />Vacation accrual varies by bargaining unit. Refer to collective bargaining agreements or, for non - represented <br />employees, the APPM for accrual schedules. Your maximum vacation accrual amount is printed on your pay <br />check. <br />20 <br />
