Supervisors, therefore, should address disharmony <br />in the work place, even if the disharmony has to do with protected speech. Some examples of the <br />guidelines are that supervisors may prohibit employees from putting ribbons or flags on antennas of City <br />vehicles, from attaching posters or pins to their workspace walls, or from wearing political buttons if a <br />uniform ia required. Given the first amendment implications, supervisors should contact HFlbefore <br />disciplining any employee because the employee is wearing a political button. <br />In addition, a public notice regarding this prohibited activity is required to be posted in conspicuous places <br />likely tube seen bvemployees.
