Chapter g APPEARANCE PO LICY I . The city should create an environment of beauty for its people, not merely by a program of prettification, but by following plans which emphasize our natural resources of beauty and which prevent the 'destructi on of these resources by di sorgarfi zed development, clutter, sprawl, and other enemies of beauty. We should strive for the beauty that is provided by the harmonious relationship of parts': natural topographical features, parks and parkways, l iving areas , working areas, arterial systems, peripheral open spaces. 2. We should be beauty- consci ous and should require developers, o0ners an tenant3 of residential, commercial, and industrial property to direct their efforts toward our noal of achieving a beauti fill city. 3. We shou Mrike an effort to preserve those remaining bui l dings, Zandmculks, sites and cege to t ion wh ich a re the visib re minders of our past, 4. We should continue present pul i ci es of: A. Acquisition of park l (accelerating the rate in outlying areas) . B. City responsibility for street trees (accelerating the city's program of planting and inai ntai ni rig street trees) . 5.
