Welcome and Introductions <br /> <br />Mr. Forbes called the meeting to order and welcomed members of the Mayor's Committee on <br />Economic Development. At his request, those present introduced themselves. <br /> <br /> 2. Purpose and Desired Outcome <br /> <br />Mayor Torrey thanked those present for their willingness to serve on the committee. He <br />acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge facing committee members. He said economic <br />development issues were frequently contentious in the community. However, he believed the <br />community must find some agreement about what it was willing to do, or otherwise Eugene <br />would unnecessarily lose economic development opportunities. Mayor Torrey said Eugene had <br />a bad reputation in Oregon business circles because of the time it took for the Hyundai <br />development to occur.
