ECC UGENE ITY OUNCIL AIS GENDA TEM UMMARY Action: Appointment to Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission Meeting Date: November14, 2011 Agenda Item Number: 2D Department: Planning and Development Staff Contact: Michelle Cahill www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 541-682-5508 ______________________________________________________________________________ ISSUE STATEMENT This is an action item to appoint one member to the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission to fill a position with a term which will expire January 31, 2015. BACKGROUND The purpose of the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission is to act as the governing and policy-making body for regional wastewater management activities. Seven persons compose the commission, three of which represent the city of Eugene: one elected official and two citizen at-large members. The Mayor appoints the elected official and nominates the citizen representatives for three-year terms. The City Council then votes on the Mayor's citizen nominations. The recruitment for the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission was initiated in early December, and concluded on December 30, 2011. The only applicant was Hilary Loud who is reapplying for her position. The Mayor nominated Ms. Loud for reappointment. RELATED CITY POLICIES The Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council working under an intergovernmental agreement. COUNCIL OPTIONS The City Council has the following options: 1. Appoint the applicant who has been nominated; 2. Appoint someone else: 3. Seek additional candidates for this position.
