MINUTES <br />Eugene City Council <br />McNutt Room —City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street — Eugene, Oregon <br />February 10, 2012 <br />9 a.m. <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: George Brown, Pat Farr, Betty Taylor, Andrea Ortiz, George Poling, <br />Chris Pryor, Alan Zelenka. <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: Mike Clark <br />A. CITY COUNCIL RETREAT <br />The City Council was joined by members of the Executive Management Team: City Manager Jon Ruiz, <br />Assistant City Manager/Planning and Development Director Sarah Medary, Police Chief Pete Kerns, <br />Public Works Director Kurt Corey, Library, Recreation, and Cultural Services Director Renee Grube, <br />City Attorney Glenn Klein, Fire and EMS Chief Randy Grove, and Central Services Director Kristi <br />Hammitt. The executive team presented progress reports in the following areas: <br />Safe Community Police Chief Pete Kerns <br />• Decreased property crime <br />• Greater sense of safety (especially downtown) <br />• Visible and accessible police presence <br />• Better police /community relations <br />Sustainable Development <br />Sarah Medary and Kurt Corey <br />• Strategic job creation/decreased unemployment <br />• Support for small and local business <br />• Decision - making that weighs economic, social equity and environmental (triple bottom line) <br />effects <br />• Increased downtown development <br />Accessible and Thriving Culture and Recreation LRCS Exec Director Renee Grube <br />• Accessible to all incomes <br />• Preserve strength in arts and outdoors <br />• Invest in arts and culture as an economic engine <br />Effective, Accountable Municipal Government Fire Exec Director Randy Groves <br />• Transparent and interactive communication <br />• Public engagement that involves the community broadly <br />• Stronger partnership between government entities <br />MINUTES— Eugene City Council February 10, 2012 Page 1 <br />Retreat <br />
