Green School Summit Gives Students a Voice
Eugene hosted the 16th annual Oregon Green Schools Summit on Apr.16. One hundred and seventy-five students
from 42 schools from across the state participated and were given a chance to voice their hopes, concerns, and desire
for action.

Students attended three educational sessions on a wide variety of topics, including a session on how to build worm
bins held by City of Eugene Waste Prevention and Green
Building. Sessions were also available for teachers, custodians,
administrators and others involved with school environmental
efforts. Other participating organizations included University of
Oregon, NextStep Recycling, and other premier level green
schools.

Teacher Steve Connelly noted, “This year's Green School Summit
was a total success. We saw collaboration between teachers and
activists as well as community members and students. My kids
are already in contact with several of the presenters from the
summit regarding implementing projects that they
saw. Specifically, we have decided to make next year the Year of
the Rain Garden at Spencer Butte Middle School based on a
project that we saw from Pleasant Valley Elementary.”
High School students learn to deconstruct computer components

at NextStep Recycling.
For more information, contact Anne Donahue at 541-682-5442.

New Online Tool Available for Viewing Building Permit Information
Need to quickly look up the status of a building permit - or find the most recent construction activity report for the City
of Eugene?
