Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
We use a combination of fabric reusable bags and reuse heavy paper grocery bags; the later for
as many times as they allow before they tear, after which they're recycled. We're acquiring more
fabric bags as time goes on. We can do without the plastic carry-out bags.
Ban 'em
I think you should try a public awareness campaign before an outright ban which may create
hardships for some.
Shop often at Fred Meyer, Dollar Tree, and sometimes Target
While I believe that small stores should be allowed to use plastic, I encourage paper to be the
best option when reusable bags are not utilized.
I strongly support a ban on the use of plastic bags because of their negative effect on the
environment, particularly on wildlife.
This just doesn't seem like a pressing issue right now. It really feels like a very vocal minority (the
usual suspects) are pushing this. I'm as green and leftie as you get, so I'm not some right-wing
troll.
was in line behind a couple using cloth bags. The bags had rodent droppings in them. Clerk had
to sanitize her area before I could be helped. I didn't want my groceries to touch the checkout
counter. DISGUSTING !!!!!!!!!
I like plastic bags, and reuse them in my home. I would miss them if they are banned.
Get rid of them.
I really dont know why im wasting my time with this survey,,,I use and recycle plastic bags,,,throw
very few away,,,,but the way i see it,,,Portland and Corvallis has already chosen to get rid of
them..and Eugene is a follower,,the city never makes its own decision,,,so with Portland and
Corvallis getting rid of them,,,Eugene will do also....I really hope not,,,but i truly think your choice
has been made
I use the store provided plastic bags for trash disposal. If you get rid of the bags, I will just
purchase plastic bags to use for my trash, so no advantage.
It was voted on with a state vote not to ban plastic bags. It looks like your going to do it anyway,
my vote does not count?
Don't mess with my bags!
it is discouraging to see the plastic grocery bags along the streets, hiways and roadways. it is a
tragedy for the excuse that people cant take reusable bags to the store.
Each of us can take personal responsibility for the environment by not using single-use plastic
bags. Plan ahead. There are lots of other choices.
As long as ban is only on the carry-out bag and does not also include the biodegradable produce
plastic (green) bags, this is a good resolution!
I have used plastic bags only rarely in the last 5 years. Once you redirect your bagging priorities,
plastic bags are unnecessary.
Please discontinue the use of these bags. I do reuse paper bags for all sorts of things. I try not to
get plastic from any source.
This type of plastic bag is a single use shame. Plastic is everywhere throughout the food chain. It
should be reserved for uses where it is is most critically useful. Medical uses, for example, and
some manufacturing, and some others. Purposes readily accomplished without plastic should not
use it. When needed, as full recovery and reuse as possible should be in place. We can't do all
that but we can do our part, which also protects sea turtles, other sea life, and slows down at least
the "laundry line" of plastic bags effect on fences in the wind.
There are some stores like wallmart that don't even offer brown paper bags! Those stores should
be banned!
If we do away with single-use plastic bags people will get used to it and make do with paper or
reusable canvas or other bags. We'll figure it out!
