Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
While I am not a big fan of the plastic bags myself, I do use them both in grocery shopping and at
home and on occasion and would miss their presence. For example, I prefer to bag my meat in
them because I don't want meat juices leaked onto my other groceries. I think that educating
people would be a more useful tool than legislation to ban them. I also disagree with charging for
the paper bags if that is still on the table.
We support the banning of plastic AND paper bags.
Reusable canvass bags are all that is needed, even to replace ppaper bags
retailers should be required to recycle the plastic wrapping used in their received goods.
My husband and myself really feel that plastic bags should be banned. Thank you
I just want to say FUCK YOU for wasting tax dollars and my time on this.
the bags in question are marked with the universal recycling symbol for HDPE (#2)

Why doesn't the Oregon garbage hauler recycler pickup take them as legally mandated -By
Oregonlaw the hauler gets a discount on their "tipping fee" to pay for pickup and recycling all the
marked plastic - not just milk jugs and newspaper and cardboard that can be sold at a profit -
that's the problem!
Let's ban all plastic bags in Eugene, we have done so on Maui!
Let's move to paper!
Plastic bags are devastating to wildlife and to our

ocean health. In the end, that means devastating to us as well. We need to act for the future, not
always the short term. We're all in this together.
Leave plastic bags alone! This is VITAL to me. Government has no busines micro-managing
personal choices. And I VOTE!
I support a plastic bag ban 100%!! As it is, I'm really lazy about making sure I have my reusable
bags with me, and I think there are a lot of people like me - a push in the right direction would be
good for everyone.
BAN THE BAG!
I have used fabric bags, baskets and crates for 40 years. It is easy and no problem whatsoever.
Taking a nice bag TO the grocery store is EASY. In parts of Europe they do not supply any bags
at all. Most of us have too many plastic bags in our homes; hence the waste. For those who
defend free bags because they want to use these free bags for trash I say buy some; they are
cheap. Put a value on them and their prevalence will decline. Better to have fewer bags than too
many.... The Bottle Bill put a value on bottles and cans....
This survey is not a real survey and use of the data to create law is unscientific and a waste of
money.
I would LOVE Eugene to ban plastic bags. They are too convenient, too harmful. If we can
change this one thing, it would be really awesome.
Lets be a city that other cities look up to for our environmental actions: rather than one that sees
that it works for others so we should do it also.
Step 1: use reusable bags

Step 2: if I forget them, use plastic

Step 3: if plastic bags are in good condition, reuse for cat box. If not, recylce at grocery store.
There are other ways to clean the cat box, so I'm not reliant on the plastic bags.
We need a 5 cent deposit on both paper and plastic bags. At all retailers, not just grocery stores.
Target, Lowes, Taco Bell, etc.
We don't need single use plastic bags. Most of us grew up without them, and got along just fine.
They are wasteful and taxing on the environment. They just end up in the landfill or as litter on the
streets.
