Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
A plastic bag ban should be implemented
Let's follow Corvallis and Portland and ban these ugly things.
I use the plastic bags only if I have to - they break more easily, and I would really like to see them
gone!!
I will shop in Springfield if plastic bags are banned.
Lived in Seattle where they were banned unless you were willing to pay for the luxury of a plastic
bag - good solution - with money going to recycle agencies
as a user of Eugene's many bikeways, I often see discarded plastic in bushes, streets and
waterways
I am in favor of a ban on single use plastic bags. If there were to be a charge for getting one, I
think it should also apply to paper bags as both are costs to the retailer, with paper being more.
Raise taxes so you can mess with people more.
I think that consumers should pay for their bags. that will hit home. if they want a bag that'll be 50
cents please. other countries do this. the u of o is now having a surcharge if you'd like a cup with
your cup of coffee. it makes one think twice. this is my thought. it certainly would make me
remember to bring my bags. it also readjusts the mindset of the consumer i think. if you have to
buy your bags, it reminds you that you are the one responsible for this.
Ban the plastic bag!!!
I support elimination of plastic bags. I can be trained to bring my own bags and so can others :).
Thanks
I oppose any ban on small plastic bags that are used for fruits and vegetables. I am in favor of
banning larger 'carry out' plastic bags as long as there is a paper substitute.
The ban seems extreme. How about mandating garbage carriers offer recycling as a first step?
I try to use my cloth bags as often as I can but sometimes I forget them at home or in the car.
Can't the plastic used to make the bags be formulated to be bio-degradable? Then these bio-
degradable bags could be the only LEGAL bags that stores could use.
this survey was biased in the questions. I do not want the option of plastic bags taken away. That
was not posed in the survey but it was suggested it would be.
Plastic bag ban is overdue in Eugene. Why are we behind Portland and Corvallis on this issue?
It's about time they're banned in Eugene, why it hasn't been done already. It's just a matter of
changing people's habits. PLEASE pass the ban! Would like to see more done around
nonuse/reuse of plastics.
if plastic bags are not available, i must purchase plastic bags that do end up in the garbage. so
what is the difference?
I live out of town and do all my shopping in Eugene. If there is a plastic bag ban, I will be forced to
shop elsewhere in order to ensure that my needs are met.
reusable bags are an extra expense for the elderly and low income, as is 5 cent charge for paper.
Place user tax on each bag, use revenue for sole purpose law inforcement. Support would be
great and two very important issues would be solved with very little fuss.
I would not support a plastic bag ban if there was a charge allowed for paper bags.
Do not ban plastic bags
Doing away with free plastic bags provided by the retailer would leave a lot of people having to
buy plastic bags to get rid of dog poop and or cat litter. Unintended consequences might be
LESS recycling of plastic and MORE purchases of newly made plastic.
please follow the lead of other progressive western cities and ban the bag.
Get rid of them and while you're out it go back to glass milk bottles and water fountains instead of
plastic bottles please.
