Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
a mix of plastic bags from the retailer and reusable bags (grocery shop in large quantites and
don't have enough reusables to accomodate)
Groceries: I always try to use discarded store product boxes
unless paper is available
Question 2: When you go shopping in Eugene, how often do you use a single-use
plastic carryout bag provided by the retailer?
No text response option
Question 3: When you go shopping, how often do you take your own reusable bags?
No text response option
Question 4: What prevents you from using (and reusing) a REUSABLE bag?
I don't like to use any bag
we use plastic bags for dog waste, and paper bags for home kitchen trash bags
I forget to take them into places like clothing stores.
Cynicism
use other non-reusable bags for other things including garbage disposal
Don't want to bother with remembering them each trip. Also know I can recycle brown paper bags
so I don't feel bad about using them.
I reuse grocery bags at home as trash bags and recyling bags, so I want the bags
Not really that interested in using reusable bags. We reuse the plastic bags as garbage bags
and/or recycle them.
I use plastic bags for kitty litter disposal
made in china, unsanitary, I sometimes shop inpromptu, don't need them at home, don't know
how many I'll need per trip, waste of my personal resources
Concenience/laziness
The only time I don't use the reusable bags is if I forget to bring them.
reusable tote (carry-out) bags fail early or are too small; reusing store paper tote bags multiple
times is much cheaper than commercial reusable totes because one can get a 5-cent store rebate
if i dont have one I carry out the groceries and put them in my car rather than using plastic bags
Being understocked--or needing something for damp vegies
ineed paper bags for garbage and plastic bags for dog waste when I take the dog on walks
It is inconvenient to pack bags from home when they are readily available fom the retailer
I reuse them at home
Pain in the ass
Not always practicable for certain products
we use the plastic bags to dispose of the 4 soiled Depends my husband needs each day
I have some of the same bags I have used for 20 years here and in other northwest cities
Also, reusable bags are not clean
Sometimes I stop at the store unexpectedly and the one I carry always already is full.
Buy more then anticipated
I use the plastic bags to pick up dog poop.
Convenience and the reusable concept is another waste of energy, an expense, and landfill item
at some point
We use resuable bags for pet waste.
reusable not always best for raw meat/chicken = prefer those to be in a plastic bag
Occasioanally I forget at home. But often when that happens I take stuff without a bag.
I choose to use those provided me by the retailers. My choice being the operative word there.
