Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Prefer paper bags for everything. Not so flexible as plastic, therefore holds its form better. That
makes them easier to carry out of the store. Plastic bags force me to prevent dragging them on
the ground - makes my shoulders sore.
There are plenty of options available, people simply aren't aware, or don't care enough to use
them.
The only option is to eliminate all together. If a store has only plastic bags for their carry out then
they should have a recycle bin for their disposal.
Since recycling them is so easy, I am not sure how it could be made easier.
They are at most big grocery stores.
I'm not aware of that many places to recycle
We ought not have single-use plastic, in which case we would not need recycling options.
The available options work for me. But if more options would encourage more recycling, it would
all be to the good.
it's easy enough- just bring them back.
There are plenty it seems, but I hadn't heard about the drop off locations, actually.
Please ban plastic bags!!!
it's very easy to recycle at the grocery store
People only think of recycling bins. I use them to line wastebaskets, saving the need to purchase
liners. Most of them are taken to food pantries so recipients can use.
I'm not sure how well the bags that are collected are processed. I think banning the bags would be
a better option.
I reuse my plastic bag as linners in my small trash

cans. Pick up after my dog. & ect.
I think that banning plastic bags is a knee jerk reaction, and not the best solution to the problem.
Plastic bags have their uses, and any problems they create can be overcome with better recycling
options and better education of the public
It would be great if we could curb-side these bags instead of driving out to EcoSort or throwing the
away.
Grocery Store recycling is already handy. Would prefer alternative at store for produce bags or
have produce bags that were not clear so they could be used as dog poop scooper bags. At least
they then would be re-used once.
No. I see recycling bins in most stores.
W should only use cloth bags
If it could be a part of municipal recycling, I don't think they should exist in the first place -- I am
discouraged from recycling them when they are dirty and I know that they are distributed for free.
They can be returned to grocery stores for re-use or recycling.
Absolutely. Just saying it is a HUGE problem with conveyer belts in recycling them with Sanipac
is just a cop-out. I do realize it is a legit issue, I just don't feel adequate other recycling ideas have
been encouraged or embraced! It seems everybody seems the ban is the way to go. I feel
differently and oppose one as a consumer and watch dog of the disenfranchised.
IT'S OK WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO INCENTIVEIZE RECYCLINNG OR REUSE BY CHARGING
FOR THEM! BUT DO NOT BAN THEM! THEY ARE USEFUL!!!!

BTW, I DO ALWAYS CARRY MY OWN GROCERY BAGS AS WELL.
I re-use them to clean the cat pan. You really can't re-recycle after that.
Single-use plastic bags are way over-used, wasteful and un-necessary. It's a hassle to take old
bags back for recycling. We don't need to be using so many plastic bags! Eugene is overdue to
take this tiny step toward being more conscious about resource use. Once it becomes normal to
re-use bags we will wonder why it took so long to stop making all this plastic trash!!
