Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I support a ban on single use plastic bags
I want Eugene to be among the most progressive cities in the world in terms of environmental
issues. ie Clean air, No coal trains, Post-carbon.
These bags are accumulating everywhere, and never break down! No product that cannot be
recyled or cannot naturally break down should be sold or used!
They are not a necessity, but they have a huge cost to the environment and ocean life. Get them
out of here! :)
I suuport a ban on single use plastic bags.
To encourage non-recyclers to reuse bags of any kind, always provide a price reduction, as
though they are using a coupon. Some stores do this, but maybe only if their own bag is being
used.
Plastic bags are so convenient, have a mutlitude of uses, and can be used over and over.
Inexpensive, light weight, A boon for seniors to be able to carry their own groceries. Paper bags
harder to handle. I appreciate the many uses of plastic bags, Over my hair, or on my feet or in
the garbage can. Use them to deliver gifts to shut in's too.
PLEASE BAN THE BAG! We do not need to be contributing to more plastic consumption when
there are so many other great options. Thank you City of Eugene, for your careful consideration
of this issue.
People should have the right to use a plastic bag if they want to use a plastic bag. By now
everyone knows the impact of plastic bags and importance of reusing/recycling them. We do not
need the government telling us which type of bag to use, nor how to use them. It’s a simple
matter of freedom. Let's focus our attention on real problems and enough with the constant "must
be green" mentality. Let the individuals make the choice they think is right. It’s absurd for anyone
to think we need the government to hold our hand and guide us through our bag decision. I'm
starting to wonder if one of the ultimate goals of this city is to drive businesses away.
I support a ban on the use of single-use plastic bags at all retail stores
I think the city needs to focus it's time and resources on things more useful than this waste of
time. The city and county are going to ruin, and you morons are worried about plastic bags?
I would love to see an end of plastic bags. Please move this forward or charge money for each
bag.
Please please please, for our planet's sake, get rid of plastic bags. It's not a big deal, it's going to
happen sooner or later, and it makes a HUGE difference! I and the rest of the world (and future
world) implore you
We have cloth bags that we have been using regularly for over twenty years. When we started,
we almost never saw anyone else using cloth bags. .
Most of my shopping is done in Eugene. I use some of the plastic bags to line garbage cans at
home.
I do not think it is fair to ban plastic bags for some retailers and not all. If it is bad for the
environment for The dollar store to have plastic only then it is bad for the environment for the little
mom and pop stores
I would be 100% for a ban on plastic bags in Eugene
I think banning new plastic carry out bags is a step in the right direction
What about the clear plastic BOTTLES?
I reuse plastic bags as trash can liners and for pet waste. If I didn't, I would be using store-bought
trash bags. One of the big complaints expressed about plastic bags seems to be that they are a
litter problem. If we want to reduce the amount of trash blowing around and causing wildlife
hazards, legislate against littering.
It is very important that Eugene pass an ordinance to control the use of disposable plastic bags.
This will encourage a state wide ban, I hope.
